There are many government initiatives in the UK to help children in schools. However, 20% of children were not reached. To find out how to reach these children, Judith Hemming started action research projects, based on Bert Hellinger's insights, in seven British schools, with government support. These projects brought new perspectives to teachers on how to help children to feel safe and included.
Teachers got three days training in systemic concepts and three months of support from the project team. As a result, the focus of the teachers shifted from the individual to issues of belonging and inclusion. They began to see how difficult behavior is the responsibility of everyone and needed
everyone's help to sort out. Some children transferred feelings of exclusion from home to school that set off conflicts. The focus on including them helped them very much.
After a year of working with this focus on belonging and inclusion, and seeing difficult behaviors in a systemic perspective, the results were: more time for teachting and less time needed to handle problems, and better achievements of the children.
